My journey
My yoga journey started about 23 years ago when a friend suggested we take a yoga class. the teacher was in her 50`s and I thought. Wow, I would like to be that healthy and happy !
From there I have had so many great experiences travelled around Ireland meeting many great teachers, yoga workshops, Buddhist and Vedanta workshops, yoga has lead me to India to practise with my teacher Paul Kearns and his wonderful teacher, the amazing Sri BNS Iyengar B.Sc of Mysore,India who is still practising in his 90’s with amazing clarity and giving beautiful teachings on philosophy of yoga and life. Sri BNS Iyengar B.Sc is the most renowned and experienced living yogi of our time, he was taught by his lineage Guru the famous Krishnamacharya , the most renowned Yogi of all, I am privileged to be taught by a genuine lineage holder of the yoga tradition which comes from India , our Motherland.
During these 16 years , I have practised and attended hatha, ashtanga , mum and baby yoga, pregnancy yoga , kundalini yoga, meditation, buddhist talks , silent retreats, workshops and many more wonderful events. Yoga is the gift that keeps on giving and so I like to teach all ages from baby yoga (8weeks) to chair yoga for older students or people recovering from ill health.
Each experience brought me to a place of calm and happiness , a place I needed at that time. One of the greatest lessons I have learned from yoga is impermanence, we are all changing minute to minute in our bodies and minds and so each time we sit on our yoga mat it’s a new practice, a new day. I hope my classes bring some of all these wonderful lessons to my students.
My inspiration
I have to mention Ger Kinnane of Breathing Place Yoga Cane, as a wonderful feminine yoga teacher who taught me strength in my body and to push over obstacles on and off the mat. Paul Kearns of Ansolute Yoga Naas is my formal teacher of Ashtanga Yoga which is a strong disciplined practice originating in India. Paul was taught by Sri BNS Iyengar B.Sc of Mysore India and so I am fortunate to have studied the authentic Indian Yoga of Patanjala which is scientific, philosophical and systematic. I have travelled to India numerous times with Paul Kearns and my dear Yogi friends, each time visiting sacred temples, learning more asanas, chants and mantras, wonderful experiences in Mother India!
India is a feast for all the senses and the mecca for yogis! I must mention my dear Guru Swami Purnananda, a Zimbabwe Vedanta Monk living in Ireland who is my meditation teacher and also is an accomplished International Yoga Teacher . He teaches me how to be my best for my students and my dear friend Stuart O Reilly who pushed me when I needed a push to start teaching classes .I have so many people to thank for helping me follow my yoga dream.
